But if you fucking had to, you don't make her a thinly veiled plot device with two-page worths of "set-up" and "pay-off" when you have multiple evil or morally gray characters (Meenah- likely the source of le subversion-, Kurloz, Gamzee, FUCKING DAMARA, etc) sitting around with next-to-no direct impact on the plot despite their proactive personalities and direct capabilities that could easily lead to the events of Game Over.
Literally the only thing that needs to happen is that someone steals the ring. Aranea basically comments that she is a lot happier as a ghost than she ever was in life because she wasn't very popular and it allowed her to spend tons of time learning shit so she should have been striked out as a potential contender for stealing the ring. Also, ghosts can use God-Tier powers (see Damara) so the rationale for her stealing the ring is tenuous and so we have to work backwards and say "oh it is solely to ruin the session but she still wears it instead of throwing it into lava because...."
Even in spite of all of this, HIC showing up is still fucking basically inexplicable (other than "uh the people broke out of jail i guess but theyre still basically at the mercy of jade and jane especially because jade is OP"- not a reason, stutpid) and retarded and has nothing to do with anything even though we could have tied that into Meenah or Damara's characters and give that subplot a little more pathos. Nope, it's Aranea.
